The Medical Technologist is responsible for collecting, receiving, processing, and analyzing patient specimens, including blood, body fluids, and tissues, to support the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. They perform routine and specialized laboratory testing in areas such as hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, immunology/serology, blood banking, and molecular diagnostics using automated and manual laboratory techniques. They operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments to ensure accurate and reliable test results while performing quality control and quality assurance procedures in compliance with established laboratory standards. The Medical Technologist reviews and verifies test results, promptly reports critical findings to the appropriate healthcare providers, and maintains accurate laboratory records and documentation. They adhere to infection prevention protocols, laboratory safety regulations, and accreditation requirements while ensuring the proper handling and disposal of biological specimens and hazardous materials. In addition, they collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals, assist in training laboratory staff and students when required, and participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and professional development activities to maintain excellence in laboratory services.
